Description

The fragrance 4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser

Do not think that this is a perfume specially reserved for older generations. Water 4711 is on the rise more than ever and is still a huge success today!

The origins of Eau de Cologne 4711

The story of Eau de Cologne 4711 began in 1792 when Wilhelm Mülhens created a fresh fragrance from a formula of Aqua Mirabilis given to him by a Carthusian monk. Its enigmatic and numerical name comes from the address where the first copies of this historic juice were made. Indeed, at that time, Wilhelm Mülhens lived at 4711, alley of the bells in Cologne. However, Cologne’s numbering was changed in 1811 and this address became number 12 on the same thoroughfare. If the name of Eau de Cologne has since been used for many generic perfumes, this one is indeed the original. Its recipe, meanwhile, has been kept secret for over two centuries, which has allowed this product to preserve its purity and virtues.

The freshness of Eau de Cologne 4711

Like every self -respecting Eau de Cologne, the 4711 perfume is intended for both men and women. This mixed essence begins with a citrus flight characteristic of Eaux de Cologne. This one is full of orange, bergamot and lemon. The peach nevertheless brings a more velvety aspect to it while the basil charges this start with a more aromatic power. Then, the scent of Eau de Cologne 4711 continues with great elegance in a real floral impulse. Its heart contains in particular cyclamen, lily, jasmine and Bulgarian rose. The melon, meanwhile, brings to the whole a more fruity side but also more aquatic and fresh. However, it heats up in the wake of this fragrance. The latter lets out scents of patchouli mixed with sandalwood, oakmoss, cedar and Tahitian vetiver. The musk then sublimates the whole with a more animal sensuality. What’s more, Eau de Cologne 4711 is also very famous for its bottle. Cylindrical in shape, it resembles a luxurious apothecary’s vial. The latter is absolutely timeless, both charged with a heavy past heritage but still perfectly anchored in the current era.

Released in 1792, “ 4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser marks the beginnings of modern perfumery. Its name comes naturally from the city where this mythical cologne was created, more particularly from the precise address, with the number. At that time Wilhelm Mülhens lived at 4711 rue des cloches in Cologne. This cologne has a strong reputation today, it should not be forgotten that “4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser” was President Kennedy’s favorite cologne. “4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser” is a mixed citrus and ultra dynamic water.

The incredible 4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser perfume bottle

The bottle “4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser ”is one of the most incredible and beautiful bottles in perfumery. Until the beginning of the 19th century, Eau de Cologne was packaged in Rosoli bottles. The main problem was that these vials could not be transported lying down. In 1820, Peter Heinrich Molanus created this bottle that everyone admires. With its large-format label, the bottle of “4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser” surprises and captivates. The ornamental label, highly prized by lovers of this perfume, all in Bremen blue and gold, covers the entire bottle. The medals depicted on the label are just a small sample of the many awards won at exhibitions around the world. Its hexagonal shape is this time more practical, for transporting and storing it. In 1822, the Muelhens house added a protruding collar between the shoulder and the stopper of the bottle, called a “jabot”. It then allows the high alcohol content to expand in the event of heat.

4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser, ultra-dynamic citrus olfactory notes

“4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser” begins thus on citrus notes, very fresh, but also very dynamic, namely those of lemon, orange, associated with the sweetness of peach and the aromatic tones of basil. The word basil comes from the Latin “basilicum” which means “royal”. Native to Africa and Central Asia, basil is a plant with bright green foliage that can grow up to two feet tall. The Egyptians were the first to cultivate basil. In the Middle Ages, basil was mainly associated with witchcraft. Little by little, the basil became part of Asian and then European cuisine. In perfumery, essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of flowering leaves. It gives off herbaceous, spicy, anise and fresh tones. Then, the heart of “4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser” is more floral, because it combines jasmine, Bulgarian rose, lily, cyclamen, all refreshed by the aquatic tone of melon. The fleur-de-lys is the symbol of French royalty. Until the revolution, the lily was imposed on furniture, monuments, tapestry as the symbol of submission to the sovereign. In the language of flowers, the lily represents purity, innocence and virginity. In perfumery, the lily offers jasmine, spicy and floral tones. Finally, the base of “4711 Echt Kölsnisch Wasser” intensifies and combines patchouli, oakmoss, vetiver, sandalwood and cedarwood.
